DYR...? #1

DYR...? (Do You Remember...?) will be a sporadically updated series here on //GA\\ focusing on the quality artists of yesteryear. These dynamic artists serve to remind us of the genius of pop music past and further emphasize the fact that ppl these dayz are all jus imahtateaz.

DYR...? #1 - Skye Sweetnam

To inaugerate the series I thought I'd go with one of my favourite "where are they now?" tween stars: Canada's own Skye Sweetnam. And I must emphasize, fellow igloo-dwellers out there, she is one of our fine nation's greatest achievements. Forget medicare, the railway, those things shaped like beaver tails served at Quebec Winter Carnival (EDIT: they are called Beaver Tails incidentally), Cows ice cream and parodying apparel, blown glass wheat sheaves, prorogation, basketball, Anne of Green Gables, Stockwell Day - none of these notable achievements in our nation's history can hold a candle to the brilliance of Ms. Sweetnam. She appeared, a flash in the pan, in Mandy Moore vehicle How To Deal, with the song "Billy S.", a teenage anthem that "out-Avrils" Avril. I saw that movie, but I remember nothing except that the love interest's name was Macon (which has always made me laugh b/c of this) and this song. Perhaps it's just cuz I'm currently majoring in English, but this song rings true time after time. Fuck prep notes!! Throw 'em in the fucking pool!! Fuck Shakespeare!! What the fuck do we owe him??!‽‽‽‽‽‽

Also, gotta love that radio at the beginning. Remember when Sony had that kinda curved aesthetic going on?

"To skip or not to skip, that is the question."
